CleanTube — Privacy Policy

CleanTube ("the app", "we", "our") is a Safari browser extension for macOS that modifies the appearance of YouTube web pages to remove Shorts, recommended videos, the Home tab, and related distracting elements, and to redirect the YouTube home page to the Subscriptions feed.

This Privacy Policy explains what information the app does and does not handle. CleanTube is designed to work entirely on your device. It does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data.

1. Information We Collect

None.

CleanTube does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. It has no servers, no accounts, and no backend. Your preference settings are saved locally on your device only and never leave it. Uninstalling the app removes them.

2. Third-Party Services

CleanTube does not integrate with, send data to, or load code from any third-party analytics, advertising, crash reporting, A/B testing, or tracking services. There are no third-party SDKs in the app.

Note: YouTube itself is operated by Google and has its own privacy practices. When you use YouTube in your browser, Google's Privacy Policy applies to that use, independent of CleanTube. CleanTube has no affiliation with, and is not endorsed by, YouTube or Google LLC.

3. Children's Privacy

CleanTube does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13. Because the app collects no personal data at all, it complies with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) by design.

4. Data Retention and Deletion

Because we do not collect or transmit any data, there is nothing for us to retain or delete on any server. Locally stored preference toggles remain on your device until you:

  • Change them in the extension's popup or the companion macOS app, or
  • Uninstall the CleanTube extension / app, or
  • Clear Safari's extension data for CleanTube.

5. Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA)

Because CleanTube does not collect or process personal data, there is no personal data for us to access, correct, export, or delete on your behalf. You retain full control of your local preferences on your own device at all times.

6. Security

All preference data is stored locally on your Mac using the standard storage mechanisms provided by Safari and macOS. We do not operate any servers, so there is no remote database that could be breached.

7. Changes to This Policy

If this policy is ever updated, the new version will be posted at the same URL with a revised "Last updated" date. Material changes will be highlighted at the top of the page. Continued use of CleanTube after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
